The Spastic Centre established the Cerebral Palsy (CP) Foundation in 2005 to seek ways to:
• prevent CP
• cure CP
• improve the lives of those affected by CP.
The Spastic Centre is a charity based in New South Wales and was the world’s first CP organisation. For over 60 years, The Spastic Centre has been helping those with CP and their families.
Cerebral palsy is a lifelong neurological condition that affects movement and, for more than 85%, its cause is unknown. To date, there has been little research into the causes of CP.
In 2005 the Prime Minister of Australia launched the Foundation with a donation of $500,000 from the Federal Government. The Foundation aims to raise $50 million over five years. Currently our balance stands at over $13 million. This capital will provide income that will fund research and other projects over the long term.
A Council of Governors has been appointed to advise the Foundation on strategies to achieve the financial target. Donors will be encouraged to become ‘partners' with the Foundation, taking up the challenge to find the cause and the cure of CP; the most common of childhood physical disabilities. In Australia, nearly 700 children are diagnosed with CP annually.
We invite donors to join with us in daring to dream of a future without CP.
We have recently received a large anonymous donation. We would like to express our thanks for this generous donation.
